Jefferson County Board of Supervisors meeting (October 14, 2026; the meeting title identifies October 13) included a presentation of the Finance Committee-approved FY2027 operating and capital budget. The proposed budget authorizes just over $113 million in expenditures and projects a countywide property-tax levy decrease of about $795,000 (2.31%); the total levy including health and library levies is about $36.04 million, down approximately $685,000 (1.87%). The capital plan includes about $11.4 million in projects, with $2.5 million funded from fund balance. Major items include two County Highway paving projects at $1.675 million each, $2.8 million in highway equipment, courthouse roof repairs, MIS building demolition and paving, eight sheriff’s vehicle replacements, and cybersecurity upgrades. The budget presentation was not itself adopted in the portion shown; a public budget hearing was scheduled for October 27.
The Board approved a $44,680 contract with Pro Lightning Protection for Law Enforcement Center system repairs and expanded coverage, funded by a transfer from contingency. It also approved a 2026 budget amendment using $15,500 in proceeds from the auction of a hazmat truck to purchase updated hazmat equipment, and accepted a $250,000 Kikkoman Foods Foundation donation for prairie restoration. Additional approved items authorized applications for a DNR lake-monitoring grant of about $13,003 and a Clean Boats, Clean Waters project costing $7,932, including a $5,949 DNR grant and municipal contributions. The Board also approved an intergovernmental surveying-services agreement with Dodge County; the reimbursement rate was still being finalized, estimated at about $75. A resident called for public involvement and policy safeguards regarding automated license-plate-reader systems after the county’s reported cancellation of its Flock Safety contract, but no new procurement or policy action on that issue was taken at this meeting.
