📚 Education 🚨 Public Safety Grants & Funding

The School District of Beloit’s regular board meeting on August 18, 2026, addressed grant-funded student supports, staffing, school safety, and the district’s budget outlook. The board unanimously approved grant funding for 60 Open Literacy tutoring seats at a second elementary school; the program provides one-to-one tutoring for students in grades 1–3, and the district expects to fund it for three years while Skyrocket support is provided to the school. The board also approved early-reading paraprofessional positions funded through Title I and the restart of the WIP teacher-intern program. It approved a one-year school resource officer agreement covering the high school and two middle schools, with a path to three officers if positions become available. A proposed BCBA and behavior-interventionist pilot was discussed, but the transcript does not show a vote on it.

The budget update described a roughly $48,000 shortfall, about $4.7 million in available funds, continued spending reductions, and consideration of up to $1 million from OPEB funds as a contingency for phone-system or other infrastructure needs. The board deferred any decision on that potential transfer until a fuller budget discussion; no new budget allocation for it was approved. The district also reported anticipated costs for a future VoIP phone-system change and reductions to CLC grant funding. The board approved revisions to its student personal-electronics policy; no dollar amounts were given for the approved program or staffing actions.
