Board Meeting 8-24-26

The WAWM School Board held its regular meeting on August 24, 2026. The main procurement-related discussion was an update on 2024 referendum construction work: approximately $15–18 million in projects had been completed across 10 schools, including HVAC, roofing, bathroom, gym, pool, elevator, and accessibility improvements. District representatives acknowledged project partners CG Schmidt and Growth Design; IMEG is also involved in planning and engineering. Digital camera replacements, school PA-system upgrades, and masonry repairs are planned. Staff are developing budgets and designs for next summer’s work at Franklin, Walker, Mitchell, Horace Mann, and West Milwaukee, with additional projects planned for 2028. The board discussed a preliminary concept for replacing the unserviceable West Milwaukee pool with a standalone community facility, potentially including an auditorium; design, access, and student circulation questions remain under review. The district also reported that initial negotiations have begun for the pre-65 health-insurance renewal, and that Baker Tilly will conduct the 2025–26 audit September 14–25. The board approved proposed course-catalog updates, including a new clinical-observations course and removal or revision of several courses; this was not a procurement action.
