The WAWM School Board held a regular meeting on September 28, 2026. The main procurement-related discussion was a workshop on the 2027 employee health-insurance renewal and RFP results. UnitedHealthcare’s initial fully insured renewal was 24.9% above current costs, an estimated $4.8 million increase; negotiations reduced it to a 15% increase, approximately $2.89 million. WPS proposed a 32.4% increase, while Anthem and Network Health declined to quote. A self-funded option was estimated at about $23.2 million, or 20.2% above current costs, compared with approximately $22.18 million for the negotiated UnitedHealthcare renewal. The board discussed cost and employee impacts, but took no action on the renewal; it is expected to return for approval in about two weeks, ahead of open enrollment.
The board approved a $20,000 donation from Greenfield Avenue Presbyterian Church to Hoover Elementary for student-centered opportunities, including field trips, clubs, and instrument rentals. Committee reports also noted that Longfellow redevelopment financing options—including a seller’s note, potential city TIF funding, or nonprofit funding—remain under review, and that a recreation-program cost-recovery model is being developed. The board calendar includes a facilities-projects workshop on October 12 and consideration of the 2026–27 final budget and tax levy on October 26.
