The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Full Commission meeting on October 8, 2026, addressed the proposed stadium project and the county’s role in the Kansas Sports Facilities Authority. The Commission unanimously approved (9–0) an ordinance designating Commissioner Binham to review the required criminal-history checks for authority members. It then voted 9–0 to suspend its agenda rules to add a proposed charter ordinance and unanimously approved that measure as well. The discussion identified concerns with state sports-authority provisions affecting the mayor’s seat on the authority, local planning and zoning powers, utility providers in BPU’s service territory, and a proposed stadium exemption from the BPU PILOT. The mayor said the actions were intended to protect local interests while continuing to support the stadium project; she also cited concerns about safeguards for the Unified Government’s pledge and the lack of agreement on a STAR bond district. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or other procurement activity were identified.
