The Wakefield School Committee meeting was held October 13, 2026. The committee reviewed the financial report through September 30: salaries were encumbered, transportation costs were expected to increase, and the special education entitlement grant was just over $1 million, while Title I and Title IIA grants saw modest reductions. Officials said revolving-account offsets are expected to end after FY27 and will not be part of the FY28 budget. The superintendent discussed a FY27 budget of $58,601,611, up $3.18 million from FY26, ongoing special-education tuition and transportation pressures, and work toward a sustainable teacher contract. Capital planning included a proposed Greenwood School pre-feasibility study and preparation for enrollment growth; no new capital allocation or contract award was approved.

The committee approved payroll warrants 10, 11, and 13, and approved the 2027 seventh-grade New York City and eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trips, amending the motion so trip dates are to be determined. The trips are planned with EF Tours; the presentation cited a family cost of $1,499, with optional insurance costing an additional $329. The committee also approved the September meeting minutes and several policies. Special education updates noted that a part-time reading specialist had been reallocated and that Crafting Mindsโ€™ Anthology Morphology curriculum had been purchased; administrators also described contracted BCBA coverage, without presenting a new contract award or spending vote.
