🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 💼 Professional Services Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

At its October 13, 2026 meeting, the Tuscaloosa City Council approved several procurement- and funding-related measures. By unanimous votes, it authorized a professional services contract with Thornton, Musso, and Bellamin, Inc., concerning lift stations 39, 41, and 2; minor public works contracts with Night Sign Industries and Druid City Electric; amendment No. 1 to a services contract with Placer Labs; and a professional services contract with Ward Scott Morris Architecture. The council also approved grant actions for the bulletproof vest partnership, the 2027 Community Traffic Safety Program, and the Skyland Boulevard Improvements Project; district improvement-fund disbursements to schools and community organizations; and amendments to the FY2027 general fund and Elevate Tuscaloosa budgets. No amounts were stated for these items. It also set demolition costs and authorized lien filings for structures at 2806 and 2808 Short Street, and authorized TPD to accept a donation from Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction Company.

A resident used public comment to criticize a previously approved $5.75 million sales-tax incentive for Delaney Property Group’s Spring Brook development, raising concerns about traffic and neighborhood impacts and asking council members to reconsider their vote; the incentive was not presented for action at this meeting. Another speaker asked about consistent enforcement of occupancy rules at downtown bars, and the public safety director said multiple establishments had been visited. The council also approved a nonprofit tax-exempt special-event license for the Hank Porter Foundation’s Ale on Wheels event and a street vacation. No competitive bids or vendor-selection process were described in the transcript.
