The Buncombe County Board of Elections held an absentee meeting on October 13, 2026. Staff reported that election-machine testing was completed successfully and that early voting would begin October 15, with multiple county locations available. The board also approved the agenda and two sets of prior meeting minutes, while deferring approval of minutes from the election-day machine-testing meeting. Staff reported 5,726 absentee ballots issued to date: 4,963 civilian, 40 military, and 723 overseas ballots.
The board reviewed nine ballots with non-curable deficiencies and approved them as spoiled; staff said the affected voters had been contacted and could vote early, on Election Day, or request a replacement absentee ballot. After review and removal of two ballots for envelope mismatches, the board approved 462 civilian, military, and overseas ballots for processing. No procurement, contract, or spending activity was identified.
