At the October 13, 2026, Rutherford County Board of Education work session, members discussed several staffing and school-facility requests. The district proposed additional one-to-one special education positions for students whose IEPs require them, with costs including benefits not to exceed $500,000; staff said existing vacancies may provide budget capacity, though filling the positions is a separate issue. A JROTC position would be reorganized with Army reimbursement and no cost to the board. Members also reviewed a Middle Tennessee Electric easement related to the Thompson Lane widening project, a Seagull Middle School softball-building HVAC request costing $16,500 at no cost to the board, and a Stewart’s Creek High agricultural-program shed to be funded through an innovative schools model grant and the CTE program. Questions were raised about flood exposure at the HVAC installation site, and staff agreed to seek a cost estimate for raising the units.
The director reported that a request to use Fund 177 fund balance to start projects was on the budget and full commission agendas. The board also reviewed a resolution advocating dedicated state arts-education funding through Tennessee’s TISA formula, to be considered Thursday. No procurement awards or formal spending votes are identifiable in the transcript; the items were discussed or scheduled for later consideration.
