The City of Independence Planning Commission meeting on October 13, 2026, considered land-use applications and two Unified Development Ordinance amendments. The commission approved a corrective rezoning near Truman Road and Chrysler Avenue 6β0; approved a planned-unit-development rezoning and preliminary development plan for 1509 South Osage Street 5β1; and approved special-use permits 6β0 for Enterprise Leasing Company to relocate its car-rental operation to 3239 South Nolan Road and for a tattoo shop at 1202 West US Highway 24. Enterprise said the new site would increase its available vehicle spaces from 31 to 71 and provide a larger building; staff noted that approval was required because of the siteβs proximity to a school and residential zoning. The tattoo-shop approval would bring the city to its stated cap of eight such businesses.
The commission also approved UDO Amendment 82 on residential infill and Amendment 83 on Board of Adjustment and preliminary-plat approval expirations, both 6β0. Amendment 82 provides more flexibility for infill development to reflect the character of surrounding blocks, including standards for setbacks and building height. Amendment 83 simplifies plat-expiration provisions and extends the period for acting on a Board of Zoning and Adjustment approval from six months to two years. The amendments were described as proceeding to City Council. No procurement activity, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
