At the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners informal meeting on October 13, 2026, commissioners discussed several infrastructure and funding matters. For the Commerce Center Drive/Glades Cut Off Road rail crossing, Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) estimated $542,700 for signal synchronization and crossing safety upgrades; a proposed three-party agreement would allocate roughly $181,000 each to the county, Port St. Lucie, and the developer, with the developer absorbing the first 10% overage. Commissioners generally supported staff negotiating county participation of no more than one-third, while seeking a future maintenance arrangement with the city and adding financial protections to the agreement; staff was asked to return with an agreement. Commissioners also directed staff to pursue a cost-sharing discussion with PGA and Port St. Lucie for an engineering assessment of the deteriorating, roughly 1.5-mile Commerce Center Drive segment. A prior $280,000 assessment proposal was noted, but no funding was committed; an MSBU and eventual transfer of maintenance to Port St. Lucie remain under consideration.
The board reviewed the Art in Public Places program, including the county’s July 2025 competitive contract with RLA Conservation for collection repairs and restoration, estimated at about $163,000. The fund held approximately $359,000, with an estimated balance of $195,000 after the work. The ordinance directs 2% of eligible county construction projects and 1% of transportation capital projects, capped at $100,000 per project, to the fund. Commissioners supported arts and the Cultural Alliance but deferred decisions on future funding and the program’s funding mechanism until after November 3. Other discussions included taking no action on historic designation for Museum Point and continuing work on the proposed animal ordinance. No formal votes or contract awards were recorded during the informal meeting.
