The Floyd County Board of Supervisors regular meeting on October 13, 2026, included several procurement and capital-planning updates. The board approved the disbursements as presented. School officials reported that five new buses had arrived: two full-size buses that were in stock and one smaller bus, in addition to the three full-size buses the division had funding for. They also reported pursuing multiple grants, including a Virginia rural health transformation grant of approximately $121,000 for health-science course equipment and work-based learning, as well as grants for school programs and science-teacher activities. The county’s election official said previously appropriated funds had been spent on two additional HART voting machines and related equipment. No new purchase amount was stated for the machines.
Capital needs and potential spending were also discussed, but several items remain preliminary. School officials said heating-system needs—particularly at the high school gym—would be brought forward with ranked priorities and cost estimates at a November meeting. Supervisors discussed a possible dedicated tax of up to 1% for school capital improvements, but took no action on it. A proposed expansion of a county lease for a site was reviewed, with staff citing substantial grading and fill requirements; the board made no decision and plans to compare it with two other property options. The board approved proposed changes to the Land Division Ordinance. A draft policy on petitions to abandon roads and a revised policy for work on discontinued roads will return for further review; neither was adopted at this meeting.
