The Alamogordo City Commission’s regular meeting on October 13, 2026, included discussion of capital projects, contracting, and economic-development spending. The city manager said staff are reviewing projects before sending them to bid, citing past delays and change orders tied to incomplete design and insufficient site investigation. The natatorium project is proceeding to bid; its pre-bid conference drew 35 attendees, and the project includes contracted project management. A commissioner described the project as roughly $16 million or more. The city manager also said the city is evaluating alternatives as its Southwest Disposal residential waste-collection franchise expires early next year, and expects to bring options to the commission. No contract awards were made during the meeting.

The commission considered approximately $1 million remaining in LEDA funds. By a 6–0 vote, it approved the city manager’s first recommendation and directed him to work with the Chamber of Commerce and Sacramento Mountains Foundation on a project to aggressively clean up White Sands Boulevard, with the goal of leveraging private investment. The manager said the funds have no deadline for expenditure and that recovery of costs should be pursued where possible. Other prospective activity discussed—but not acted on—included a possible long-term lease and privately funded reconstruction at the Toy Train Depot, and a potential tourism-marketing arrangement with the Chamber.
