Benzie County Board of Commissioners meeting, October 14, 2026. The board approved accounts payable of $1,157,005.96 and several purchasing and funding actions. It authorized an application for approximately $40,000 through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program; approved the FY2027 snowmobile law enforcement grant agreement for $16,000; and approved a winter salt purchase from Frank Miller & Sons for up to $8,218. The board also approved a 12-month NetLink Business Solutions maintenance agreement for county printers and copiers, estimated at $14,156.35, and authorized a 2027 marijuana operations and oversight grant application and related services agreement. It approved an agreement supporting a police academy recruit, including a county reimbursement arrangement, and approved the county administrator’s contract. The Sheriff’s Office said it was seeking grant support toward replacing an aging snowmobile; no final vehicle purchase amount was stated.

The board held a public hearing on the draft Tri-County Materials Management Plan, which would replace county solid-waste plans and emphasizes recycling and composting; public comment remains open through November 7, with further review and approvals to follow. Department reports included two health department grants—$83,000 for a school community health worker and about $100,000 for workforce development—and an animal-control report that painting kennel ceilings saved an estimated $5,000 versus contracting the work. Animal Control is exploring options to cover outdoor runs after receiving a roughly $40,000 quote, but no purchase was approved. Commissioners also discussed the November county millage request and delinquent-tax revenue constraints; no action was taken on the millage during this discussion.
