The Municipality of Anchorage held a general government operating and capital budget work session on October 17, 2026, to review the mayor’s proposed 2027 budget and capital program; no budget or procurement votes were taken. The proposed operating appropriation was $692.5 million, about $34,000 below the $383 million property-tax cap. Administration said a roughly $15 million 2027 gap was closed through budget adjustments, including about $1 million in vacant funded positions, reduced snow-removal contractual services, and $8.4 million from the one-time ML&P fund. The six-year outlook projects a $15–30 million gap in 2028, prompting discussion of service reductions, revenue options, special levies, and the trade-offs of using one-time funds.
The proposed capital program included $13 million for energy-efficiency projects and $31.5 million for facility improvements, alongside road, safety, and other infrastructure work. Notable proposals included a $380,000 bond request for an additional ambulance and a $1.6 million annual operating increment for its staffing; transit’s $17.5 million capital budget, largely federally funded, with a $2.5 million bond request; and water-system improvements in Girdwood. The utility also described a planned customer-information-system procurement expected to require substantial work over three years. The downtown transit center is funded through design and engineering, with a design contract expected to come before the Assembly; construction funding would be sought in a future bond. The approximately $2 billion Port modernization program was not included as a 2027 appropriation and is expected to return for separate action. These were proposals and planning discussions, not contract awards or approvals.
