The Town of Southington Town Council met on October 13, 2026. Procurement and infrastructure actions included unanimous approval of Dayton Construction Company’s $1,889,745 bid, including contingency, to replace Marion Avenue Bridge No. 131017; the project will be funded primarily through a LOCIP grant. The council also unanimously approved the leaf-service bids: temporary labor from Total Logistics Staffing at $37 per hour and equipment and labor from ShawVac LLC (no total price was stated). Snow-removal bids had been posted, with submissions due October 21. Committee reports noted approximately $15,000 in annual manhole repairs, a $96,610.91 All Electric invoice approved by the high-school roof committee, and the high-school roof project’s projected $3,198,210 balance under its $6.92 million referendum; the elementary-school roof project was reported $340,000 under budget. A proposed sewer-main arrangement for the West Street development was deferred to the next meeting pending further information on the approved site and sewer plans, maintenance costs, and tax revenue.
The council voted 5–4 against accepting FEMA’s SAFER grant, which would provide about $3.03 million toward hiring 12 firefighters but leave the town with increasing ongoing costs after federal support ends. The council also unanimously approved a revised electric-bicycle ordinance, with members noting plans to review its effectiveness and enforcement after implementation. UNICO’s proposed Goat Island lease was to be drafted for later council consideration; other proposed work on the parcel was paused pending a formal plan and review. No award or funding decision was made on that separate project.
