The Town of Waxhaw Board of Commissioners met on October 13, 2026. Procurement and infrastructure discussions included a planned roadway maintenance program: staff reported just over $2 million available in Powell Bill funds and planned to spend about $1.5 million on road repairs and resurfacing over the coming months. Staff are preparing the spring maintenance scope and evaluating methods such as microsurfacing and pressure pave; no paving contract or vendor award was made. The board also adopted Resolution 2026-19, authorizing applications for an NC 16 extension corridor planning project and design of the Kensington Drive multi-use path. Staff described a potential $300,000 planning grant and a Kensington project estimate that would require about $347,000 in town matching funds at a 50% match, if awarded. The projects could support future transportation construction and pedestrian connectivity.
The board endorsed an application for a Union County Arts Council grant to help cover additional artists and demonstrations for a town event, with the town’s operating budget providing the match. Staff reported that a draft fuel-provider contract was under review to address pricing and fuel specifications, with a proposed contract expected to return to the board in November; no provider or award was identified. Finance staff also noted the FY2027 capital ordinance totals $5.97 million and is funded from designated accounts. Staff discussed ongoing permitted underground fiber installations by providers including Kinetic and AT&T, explaining the town’s role in permitting, monitoring, and enforcing right-of-way conditions. No fiber procurement or contract award was discussed.
