Cranston City Council’s October 13, 2026, special council, Public Works, and Ordinance meetings addressed liquor licensing, public safety, infrastructure, and local ordinances. The council approved a Class A liquor-license transfer subject to receipt of a Rhode Island Department of Revenue letter of good standing, and approved new liquor licenses for a café and Wicked Good Sausage Company subject to outstanding documentation and licensing conditions. In a show-cause matter involving Lang’s Bolarama, the business agreed to submit a safety plan to the police within two weeks; the council planned to remove the matter from the calendar once the plan was received. No procurement award was made in these licensing or safety matters.
Public Works discussed pending procurement for the new municipal pool: the prior contract included $37,500 for winterization and a cover, and the director estimated roughly $100,000 may be available, while noting a replacement cover could cost $25,000–$35,000. A proposal had been sent to prospective vendors, with bids expected by mid-next week; no new contractor was selected. The committee also discussed a proposed $4 million drainage-improvement bond and the need to engage a contractor for catch-basin maintenance to meet MS4 permit requirements; funding was unavailable for this work in FY26, and the city has more than 5,000 catch basins. Separately, the Ordinance Committee unanimously advanced a school-employee background-check ordinance, while acknowledging legal questions about its scope and enforcement. No spending vote or contract award was recorded.
