The San Juan School District Board of Education meeting was held September 9, 2026. The board approved a $41,532.45 budget increase for the ARIRL construction project to add a fire lane and retaining wall required by the state fire marshal; the district said asphalt was the lower-cost acceptable option. Capital updates covered ongoing construction and improvements at several schools. Administrators also reported water intrusion and foundation problems at Monument Valley High School and estimated that a set of needed upgrades at Lasal Elementary would exceed $500,000, but no construction award or funding approval for those items was made. The board voted to initiate a study of the possible closure of Lasal Elementary, with public meetings and a hearing planned before a later decision; this action was not a closure decision or capital authorization.

The board also approved an accounting policy change raising the equipment capitalization threshold from $5,000 to $10,000, with the threshold to reflect higher federal guidelines if they change. It approved student-discipline policy revisions, activity and licensing items, and adjusted two future meeting dates. The board deferred a decision on the Navajo Youth Risk Behavior Survey pending further review of state and Navajo Nation requirements, with discussion scheduled for October. No other contract awards or vendor selections were identified.
