The City of Sacramento Disabilities Advisory Commission met on November 6, 2024. The commission reviewed the draft citywide parking strategy, which proposes changes to vehicle and bicycle parking requirements, including parking maximums, unbundling residential parking, expanded bike parking, and updated electric-vehicle and disabled-parking requirements. Commissioners raised accessibility concerns about scooter and bicycle placement, and asked staff to confirm whether the online draft platform is usable with screen readers. Staff will gather public and commission feedback before preparing a final draft for commission, other commissions, and City Council review in early 2025; potential city-code revisions are anticipated later in 2025. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or specific spending approvals were identified.
The commission also worked through revisions to its 2024 annual report and 2025 work plan, emphasizing follow-through and transparent status reporting on prior accessibility recommendations. It appointed Commissioner Tucson Boyd to work with staff on the Golden 1 Center Transportation Management Plan review. Staff reported that an additional accessible drop-off area and adjacent curb ramp are being advanced at Fifth and J streets. Public commenters raised concerns about the future of the cityโs Access Leisure and adaptive sports programs, including an unfilled position during the budget year; no funding or staffing decision was made. The consent calendar was approved, and the meeting was extended by vote.
