At the October 12, 2026 Homewood City Council meeting, the council approved vouchers for the September 29–October 12 period. It also approved right-of-way encroachments for drainage, irrigation, and sump-pump work at 300 and 302 Edgewood Boulevard; votes on the separately considered items included 3–2 approvals for irrigation at both properties and a 5–0 approval for sump-pump work at 302. The discussion surfaced uncertainty about how the work was connected across the two properties and whether required indemnification was in place. Council members said staff and the city attorney were developing an administrative process for right-of-way applications and called for safeguards and review of other work by the builder. A $250,000 state check for an Edgewood project was also announced.

The council held public hearings on proposed development plans for The Woods, a golf-oriented entertainment venue in West Homewood, and two student-housing buildings on Samford University property; votes on both plans were deferred to the October 26 meeting. Samford representatives described a proposed ground lease of about 40 years, with ownership and financing arrangements still under consideration. The agenda was amended to add items including a proposed Chamber of Commerce lease, an interchange-mowing bid date, and a facilities-use agreement, but the transcript does not clearly record action on those items. The council also approved a zoning-ordinance amendment concerning minor vehicle repair and reviewed the city manager’s performance.
