A virtual community meeting on the Lehigh Permanente site, convened by Santa Clara County District 5, was held October 12, 2026. Heidelberg Materials reported that demolition and hazardous-material abatement are underway: abatement followed a competitive bid process and began in mid-March 2026, while demolition is expected to continue into late 2027 or early 2028. No contractor, contract value, award vote, or spending approval was identified. The company estimated about 15,427 tons of demolition material for recycling; metals are being recycled, concrete is being stored for possible reuse, and other construction-and-demolition debris and asbestos are being sent for disposal.
The meeting also covered the six-year Permanente Creek restoration project, with work continuing in 2026, and Heidelberg Materials’ 2023 reclamation plan amendment, which remains under county review and environmental analysis. The company said future quarry filling could involve roughly 200–400 truck trips per day, depending on material availability, and that rail transport may be considered if feasible. No procurement decision or vote was taken. County monitoring, environmental permits and water-quality requirements, and anticipated community discussions about possible future uses of the former plant area were also discussed.
