The City of Greenville, South Carolina, held a Cureton Street traffic-calming kickoff meeting on October 13, 2026. Assistant City Engineer Valerie Holmes explained that the petition phase is complete and the next steps are collecting traffic-volume and speed data during a typical school week, forming a neighborhood study team, and developing a plan. Eligible traffic-calming measures may include speed humps, landscaped islands, curb extensions, speed cushions, alternating parking, and chicanes. Each proposed device must receive at least 70% support among votes cast; all-way stops are outside this program and require a separate engineering review. No contract award, vendor selection, or procurement action was identified.

Residents raised concerns about cut-through traffic, a hazardous intersection, on-street parking, sidewalks, and the timing and accuracy of prior speed counts. The city said installation is handled by Public Works, with an estimated backlog of nine months to a year after approval; residents do not contribute to installation costs, and funding levels do not determine scheduling. Holmes offered to check whether McEwen Street is included in sidewalk programs and to pass along other reported issues. The city also noted that an on-street parking policy is still in draft form.
