The Public Ways Committee met October 12, 2026. It voted to send a $75,000 bid for Brickyard-related trail work to City Council on October 20, with a request to suspend the rules so paving can proceed before asphalt plants close for the season. The project is funded by a remediation grant and the Fixler donation; a supplemental appropriation is expected. The committee also voted to forward an application for a proposed $1.5 million trolley-line-to-Brickyard connecting trail project under the state’s TLCI grant program. The application requests no local match, although the program generally calls for 20%; the application had already been filed subject to Council authorization. Brickyard remediation is largely complete, and trail and trailhead work is progressing. The committee also advanced legislation to authorize the remaining design work for the airport’s automated weather observing system; the city’s construction share is expected to be a 5% match, with construction funding planned for next year. The airport precision approach path indicator project is complete. The airport fee schedule had already been approved by Council under Ordinance 26-113.

The committee reviewed proposed 2027 capital spending, including $151,000 for automated gates to complete the City Hall parking-lot project; park and field improvements, equipment, and restroom upgrades; $15,000 for transfer-station repairs and finishing work; $80,000 for street striping; and $12,000 for two fire-station garage doors. Exterior repairs to a city-owned airport hangar, estimated at about $115,000, were described as planned for 2028. These were budget-review items rather than recorded awards. A resident’s request to allow licensed golf carts on city streets was referred to the Public Safety Committee for discussion; no procurement action was identified on that matter.
