The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Board of Education work session on October 13, 2026, included updates on two major property and procurement matters. A proposed exchange of seven former school properties to the City of Cleveland for 29 city-owned parcels adjacent to six operating CMSD schools is scheduled for a separate board vote on October 27; it was not approved at this session. The city also presented results of its RFQ process for redevelopment of the former school sites: six teams were selected for seven sites, with concepts representing more than 500 housing units, nearly 780,000 square feet of renovated space, about 120,000 square feet of new construction, and more than 190,000 square feet of commercial and community space. The city expects projects to move forward in earnest in 2027, following further community engagement and financing work; potential support discussed included federal HOME funds and tax abatements. No project budgets or redevelopment contract awards were presented.
District staff presented a proposed one-year renewal of the Flock Safety camera contract, estimated at $603,000 annually, for possible board consideration as early as October 27. The district said it is operating under a short-term extension and recommended a one-year term to maintain coverage while strengthening oversight and reviewing options, rather than making a longer commitment. Staff reported that external access had been revoked except for the Cleveland Division of Police, and committed to quarterly reviews and tracking outcomes. No vote on the renewal occurred. The board approved the consent agenda and separately approved employee discipline resolutions; no other spending or procurement approvals were identified.
