Wake County Schools Facilities and Operations Committee meeting, October 13, 2026: Staff reviewed the proposed $832.3 million school bond, then before voters, covering three new schools, nine named renovation or replacement projects, and districtwide capital needs such as building systems, security, technology, and equipment. The presentation cited $143 million for new schools, $359 million for districtwide investments, and $152.3 million in cash funding. No bond spending or award vote was taken. Staff also explained that Wake County receives 1.9% of the state’s $68 million public-school capital allocation from lottery funds; county commissioners determine its use, with much of the district’s share applied to county debt service. Members requested a public-facing explanation of the lottery funding. The committee also approved the September 8 minutes.
For mobile classroom assessments, staff reported selecting Bureau Veritas from six qualified firms and said contract negotiations were underway; the agreement is expected to come to the board for approval December 1, with assessments of 496 district-owned mobile buildings scheduled to finish by March 1, 2027. Staff estimated removal at about $15,000 per classroom and relocation at about $150,000 per classroom; two relocation projects were estimated at roughly $5 million each, and the Carver project at $5.5 million. The committee also heard a presentation on a proposed cell tower at Brassfield Elementary under the district’s 2018 master license agreement with APC Edge. The proposal includes an 185-foot tower and emergency access work; the presenter said revenue would go entirely to the district for the first two years, then be split 50/50. No approval vote was taken, and public comment was noted for the October 20 board meeting.
