The Wake County Public Schools Community Engagement Committee met on October 13, 2026. Members approved the September 8 meeting minutes by motion and vote. Presenters described Wake Up and Read’s literacy work, including family engagement, partnerships with 30 schools and 18 child development centers, and distribution of more than 96,000 books last school year. They also outlined upcoming book drives and ways families, students, volunteers, and community organizations can participate. A volunteer program was temporarily paused because of facility issues, with opportunities expected to resume in early November; volunteers were encouraged to begin the district application process in the meantime.

The committee also discussed special-education family supports, including IEP information and monthly Bridge Builders sessions, and the district’s efforts to expand restorative practices. Members brainstormed ways to make schools more welcoming, such as clearer communication, friendly front-office interactions, family activities, and follow-up when concerns are raised. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, or other procurement activity were identified; discussion of funding and book donations did not result in a spending action.
