At its October 12, 2026 regular session, the Asheville City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a budget resolution covering approximately $92 million across district funds. The board also unanimously approved a bonus action that would extend payments to employee groups excluded by state eligibility rules, including locally and federally funded staff and certain contract employees; the district estimated its local share of the bonuses at approximately $275,000–$300,000, including about $52,000 for the otherwise-excluded group. The consent agenda, which included declaring right-of-way and easement interests at 441 Haywood Road surplus, was approved. The board also approved a one-year extension of the superintendent’s contract and related adjustments by a split roll-call vote; no contract amount was stated.
The superintendent reported that the district received a $49,800, one-year North Carolina Digital Learning Initiative grant for instructional technology integration and educator development. Capital work discussed included Asheville High stadium repairs, a new perimeter project, completion of the CTE kitchen pending final fire-code work, and ongoing Hall Fletcher renovations expected to continue through the following fall. A facilities needs assessment is continuing, with potential future capital improvements and consolidation of central services under consideration; no related contracts or vendor awards were announced.
