At its October 12, 2026 meeting, the Shelby County Board of Commissioners approved several funding and development items. It accepted an additional $80,000 in federal Office of National Drug Control Policy grant funds for the Sheriff’s Office, bringing the total award to $385,971, and approved an amendment of up to $135,000 to InSafe Inc.’s engineering-services contract for Big Creek Park Phase 1C, funded by a federal grant. Commissioners also approved the 3,535 Central Project economic impact plan and related tax-increment financing amendment; a commissioner cited projected impacts of $493 million over the TIF term and $83 million in construction. The Board approved sales of county-owned delinquent-tax parcels listed in the consent agenda, passed the first reading of intergovernmental agreements for annual funding of a permanent household hazardous-waste facility, and approved air-pollution permit-fee changes. The InSafe item prompted questions about Title VI documentation and project progress reports. The Board also approved a zoning-map application for unincorporated Shelby County.

The Board advanced a first-reading ordinance for a temporary moratorium on data-center permits to a second reading (5 in favor, 4 opposed, 4 abstentions); an alternative regulatory proposal was discussed for committee review. A proposed resolution to solicit and select independent commission counsel, revised to cap spending at $150,000, was referred back to committee for further review rather than approved. Commissioners also debated a 180-day pause on delinquent-tax property sales in District 7, but the transcript does not capture a final vote on that item. Appointments to commission administrative posts were approved, including Clay Perry as chief administrator (10–1, 2 abstentions), Victor Anderson as administrator (10–1, 2 abstentions), and the Equal Opportunity Compliance administrator and deputy (13–0).
