The October 13, 2026, Laveen Elementary School District #59 Governing Board meeting opened with a required public hearing on bonds, overrides, and capital plans. District staff reported that voters approved $50 million in bond authority in 2024, with about $20.4 million remaining from the first $34 million issued; the district also retains authority to issue another $16 million. The ten-year capital plan estimates about $70 million in needs, primarily for a new school, renovations, and modernization, against roughly $76 million in anticipated resources, including state new-school funding, reserves, and bond proceeds. The district reported $14.1 million in override revenue last year, including $5.6 million for capital uses such as facilities, curriculum, and buses. The board approved the 2025–26 Annual Financial Report, which reported about $182 million in total spending and $26.8 million in bond-building-fund expenditures, and approved change orders to the FCI Constructors contract for the transportation building and education-center improvements and to the Lost Lighting contract for electrical improvements; change-order amounts were not stated.
The board also approved the 2026–27 educator effectiveness plans, a data-sharing agreement with Phoenix Union High School District, and a pooled equitable-services memorandum with Roosevelt School District. It waived the second reading and approved policy revisions, including changes concerning conflicts of interest in contracts and alignment of district purchasing exemptions with the Arizona Procurement Code. Staff additionally reviewed the first-year implementation of the Arts and Letters curriculum, noting that the district completed its adoption and procurement process, professional development, and delivery of materials; no new curriculum award or price was presented at this meeting.
