The Anderson County Operations Committee met October 12, 2026. Procurement and spending discussions included the Claxton Park design RFP: five firms responded, with four local firms expected to be interviewed; no firm has been selected. The committee was told that $250,000 in donations is available for the project, and that the current procurement is for design, not construction. For the new animal shelter at Carden Park, described as a $6 million project, the committee approved a request for environmental, geotechnical, boundary, topographic, hydrological/stormwater, and aquatic-resource documents, along with the project’s loan information. The committee also approved sending requests for funding to clean up two properties on Old Lake City Highway to the Budget Committee; the county expects to place liens on the properties to recover costs when they are sold.

The committee approved a motion to refer a request to use tourism funds for fire protection and other first-responder needs to the law director, Budget Committee, and Legislative Committee. On fireworks, it approved a resolution as presented and separately voted to repeal the 1947 private act; the discussion included whether sales should be allowed, and the resolution passed with sales language included. Following concerns about the Flock camera contract’s validity and vendor responses to data-use questions, the committee voted to suspend camera use pending resolution of the contract issue; the motion is to go to the full commission for approval. Fire chiefs requested 30 additional days to review the proposed fire code. No Claxton Park design award or new construction contract was made during the meeting.
