The City of Acworth Board of Aldermen’s October 12, 2026 work session included a public hearing on an overlay approval certificate for 4887 North Main Street. Staff recommended approval of the façade changes, and the board directed that the item be placed on the consent agenda for its Thursday meeting. The board also reached consensus to place two ordinances on that agenda: a process for considering HOA applications to transfer eligible private infrastructure to the city, and a prohibition on new speed humps, bumps, or tables on city roads. Under the infrastructure process, applicants would pay application, survey, engineering, legal, and deficiency-correction costs; staff would assess condition, repair and long-term maintenance costs, and budget impacts before the board decides whether to accept assets. Acceptance would not guarantee immediate repairs or reimbursement to the applicant. The board requested language indicating accepted roads would be added to the city’s pavement-condition tracking system.

Cobb Fire Chief Cunningham reported that the county has approved 31 additional fire department positions and described a planned final phase of training-ground renovations, including an approximately $7 million multipurpose building; he also cited roughly $23 million in prior training-facility renovations. The city manager reported that police vehicle outfitting was listed on the upcoming consent agenda for recently purchased vehicles, and that stormwater staff were conducting a pricing exercise for the Durafield drainage project. The city is preparing proposed 2028 SPLOST projects for public review ahead of a November vote. No procurement awards or vendor selections were made during the work session.
