The WSD Boardroom held a study session on September 2, 2026. District staff reported that FY26 expenditures are expected to exceed revenues by about $20 million, with figures pending the audit. A board-approved shift in rates from the capital fund to the general fund and FY27 expenditure reductions are intended to address the shortfall. The capital fund’s ending balance was reported at about $57 million. Board members discussed receiving financial reports periodically; no new spending action or vote was recorded in the session.

The board received a safety-device update: 16 schools still need panic-alert capability, with a preliminary estimate of about $660,000 to install buttons at those schools by the July 2027 deadline. The state RFP selected Kerosoft and Centix, but district staff said they are working to complete the system using existing Audio Enhancement equipment; no vendor award or purchase approval was made. Staff also updated the Catalyst Center project, which has a $30 million grant cap. Design and engineering are being coordinated for specialized spaces and equipment, with value engineering planned after design is finalized and construction targeted to begin as early as November 2026, subject to approvals. No procurement motions or votes were recorded.
