The City of Anacortes City Council meeting was held October 12, 2026. Council approved consent agenda items 5A–D and held a public hearing on proposed 2027 budget revenue sources; no public testimony was offered. The finance director presented a proposed 1% property-tax levy increase of $87,029—about $12 annually for a $1 million home. Council did not vote on the levy that evening and planned to consider the ordinance the following week. Departmental budget meetings and revisions to the Capital Facilities Plan are underway, with a budget hearing scheduled for November 16. The finance committee also discussed a possible 2027 city B&O tax, to be considered at a later meeting. An announcement noted that a restroom and parking-lot project south of Ben Root Skate Park is fully funded through a vacation agreement with MJB.
Council approved Skagit County’s request for a noise variance for overnight work replacing the Guemes Island Ferry apron flaps, scheduled for October 19–23; the county estimated about two and a half nights of work on the Anacortes side. The discussion included possible use of the city’s reader board to notify nearby residents. The Creative District update described grant-supported plans for pocket-park improvements, public art, and two murals in 2027–28, but no new funding award or purchasing action was approved. The meeting’s final agenda item concerned revisions to classifications in the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, but the transcript ends before the presentation or council action is complete.
