The City of Anacortes, Washington City Council met on October 12, 2026. The council approved its consent agenda and held a public hearing on projected 2027 revenue, with no public testimony. Staff presented an ordinance for a 1% property-tax levy increase, estimated at $87,029; council made no final decision that evening and agreed to place it on the following week’s consent agenda. Finance Committee members also reported that budget discussions are underway, capital facilities plan items will be revised before public hearing, and a proposed city B&O tax will be discussed at a later meeting. The council approved a noise variance for Skagit County’s Guemes Island Ferry apron-flap replacement work, scheduled overnight October 19–23; the county estimated the work would take about two and a half nights on the Anacortes side and said sound would fall to about 50 decibels at a nearby residential intersection. Council members suggested additional public notice, and staff agreed to follow up about using the city’s reader board.

Other infrastructure and spending updates included construction of new restrooms and a parking lot near Ben Root Skate Park, with project costs fully covered by the city’s vacation agreement with MJB. The Anacortes Creative District reported $49,000 in capital funding for 2027 and plans for pocket-park improvements, public art, and murals. In its final action, the council adopted Resolution 3232 approving a Teamsters Local 231 MOU that adds or revises four employee classifications; estimated added costs are approximately $1,600 for the remainder of 2026, $10,000 in 2027, and $10,500 in 2028. No contract award or competitive procurement decision was identified.
