Jefferson Co. Bd. of Education Meeting

The Jefferson County Board of Education’s regular meeting was held October 12, 2026. The board approved the committee’s recommendations for 2026–27 McCormick Trust grants for Jefferson High School educators. The committee reported approximately $154,891 available against $285,546 in requests, a shortfall of about $128,926. Recommendations funded or partially funded educational materials, equipment, costumes, music and theater activities; some requests were reduced or denied, with resubmission allowed in certain cases. No vendor contract award or purchasing bid was identified. The superintendent also said he would present the county’s needs-based funding request for a JROTC building to the School Building Authority on November 10; no funding decision was made at this meeting.

The board approved elementary boundary adjustments affecting TA Lowry, CW Shipley, Shepherdstown and Driftwood, effective for the 2027–28 school year, to balance enrollment and align feeder patterns. Families raised concerns about student transitions, bus travel and advance notice. This was an operational decision, not a procurement action. The board also revised its holiday meeting schedule, moving the November 23 meeting to November 30 and canceling the December 28 meeting.
