The City of Lee’s Summit Community Economic Development Committee met on October 14, 2026. No procurement activity, contract awards, vendor selections, or spending decisions were identified. The committee discussed electric bikes and other emerging mobility devices, including police data indicating 294 related calls for service and 17 crashes in a 12-month period. Members discussed education, clearer public-facing guidance, enforcement tools, and possible future measures such as speed or helmet requirements; staff was asked to continue exploring options and return with clearer information. The committee also considered amendments to the alcohol code, including a 45% threshold for alcohol sales and limits on minors’ presence after 10 p.m. when a premises is operating in bar or tavern mode, and moved the draft ordinance forward with a recommendation for approval.
The committee voted to advance staff’s recommendation to repeal temporary World Cup-related provisions in the UDO and city code, which had already sunset. Residential parking requirements were also discussed: staff proposed allowing one enclosed space plus another off-street space for single-family homes in certain areas, rather than requiring two enclosed spaces. After concerns about street parking, safety, and housing costs, members agreed to refer the issue to the Mayor’s Housing Task Force for further consideration, including input from police and fire. The task force is scheduled to begin meeting October 26.
