The board also approved the 2027 budget-related transfers, including authorization to transfer up to $8.5 million from the Education Fund to the Operations Fund, and approved issuance of 2026 general obligation bonds and a related additional appropriation not to exceed $750,000. Bond proceeds are intended to cover some or all costs of the 2026 project, including roof repair or replacement at John Young Middle School and Mishawaka High School. The board approved implementing the BAR student-support model at three schools; the Indiana Department of Education selected and is funding Mishawaka as a pilot district. A proposed collective bargaining agreement was discussed at a public hearing, including a $2,000 increase to the base teaching salary (from $48,000 to $50,000) and proposed premium increases for health and dental insurance; ratification was scheduled for October 21, with no ratification vote taken at this meeting.
