🚨 Public Safety 🚚 Transportation Emergency Response

The City of Aurora Public Health, Safety and Transportation Committee met on October 13, 2026. The committee approved the September 22 minutes and passed liquor-license-related items 5–0, including applications for a beer-and-wine package sales license for the food market at 823 Aurora Avenue, a specialty onsite-consumption license for BIY Purse Lounge LLC, and a Class B onsite-consumption license for Kosil’s Midwest Tavern LLC. The tavern’s new owners described plans to emphasize food and a family-friendly neighborhood atmosphere. During public comment, a resident asked the city to review whether public-safety camera systems and footage were used in connection with her sister’s death; a deputy mayor was offered as a follow-up contact, but no committee action was taken on the request.

The committee received an informational presentation on a proposed $126,453 increase for an Aurora Fire Department ladder truck, raising its total price from $1,701,568 to $1,828,021. The increase reflects a federal 2027 diesel-emissions requirement and safety, efficiency, and EMS-storage upgrades; the truck is expected to be completed in October 2027. The truck was ordered from E1 (Emergency One), with Naperville Fire Services identified as the dealer. Members asked staff to clarify why no contingency covered the added costs; the item was scheduled for Finance Committee consideration on Thursday, and the PHST committee took no vote on it.
