🚨 Public Safety Policy

The Sacramento Community Police Review Commission met on November 4, 2024. The commission discussed its 2025 work plan and 2024 annual report, focusing on improving the commission’s operations and its relationships with City Council, the Police Department, and the Office of Public Safety Accountability. Members discussed addressing the backlog of prior recommendations, clarifying which remain relevant, and setting priorities for the incoming commission. A proposed joint workshop with City Council—targeted for no later than March 15, 2025—would address the City Auditor’s findings, commission resources, and a formal process for presenting and tracking recommendations. These proposals were under discussion and were not adopted as final recommendations at this meeting.

Members also reviewed draft recommendations concerning the military equipment use process and other oversight topics. They agreed to form an ad hoc group to refine draft recommendations and help prepare the annual report before the December 9 meeting. The commission noted recent amendments to City Code Chapter 2.40, including allowing commission ad hoc committees and revising attendance and service rules. The consent calendar, including the September 30, 2024 meeting minutes, passed. A motion to extend the meeting failed. No procurement, contract award, vendor selection, or spending activity was identified.
