🚨 Public Safety Regulatory Compliance

The Sacramento Community Police Review Commission met on August 11, 2025, to review the Sacramento Police Department’s annual military equipment use report and a City Auditor’s audit of the department’s military equipment policy and inventory practices. The department reported 398 incidents involving military equipment during the May 1, 2024–April 30, 2025 reporting period. Planned purchases primarily replace equipment that was expended or reached the end of its shelf life; a new UAS model was also proposed. These purchases were already budgeted, with no additional funding requested. The commission reviewed and discussed the report but took no vote; members said they supported providing feedback, ahead of City Council consideration the following day.

The City Auditor reported four findings and nine recommendations. The audit found the department had made progress on AB 481 reporting and community engagement, but identified a tightening annual approval timeline and weaknesses associated with decentralized inventory practices and inconsistent records. Recommendations included developing a revised timeline with community input, clarifying reporting and policy direction, and improving inventory controls and tracking. No contract awards, vendor selections, or other procurement approvals were identified.
