🚨 Public Safety Regulatory Compliance

The Sacramento Community Police Review Commission met on May 12, 2025. The commission discussed the Office of Public Safety Accountability (OPSA) quarterly report, which was removed from the consent calendar and continued for further discussion after commissioners requested time to review it. OPSA staff answered questions about complaint and allegation data, investigation dispositions, and the office’s reported completion of reviews of 100% of police investigations. Staff agreed to provide disposition definitions and follow-up data, including how many complaints included sustained allegations. The consent calendar, excluding the OPSA report, was approved by motion and vote. Commissioners also discussed the commission work plan and recommendation backlog; police staff provided differing totals for recommendations received and responses completed and agreed to send the commission a list of outstanding recommendations.

The commission began planning its annual community forum on the Sacramento Police Department’s military equipment use policy. Staff said the annual report was expected in mid-June, followed by a 30-day public review period, making a forum in July the earliest likely timing; staff will confirm the statutory deadline. Public comment emphasized scrutiny of military-equipment requests and any additional purchases, including whether equipment is necessary, whether reasonable alternatives exist, and whether purchases are cost-effective. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or spending approvals were identified. The commission also discussed committee priorities, including traffic safety and community engagement related to the Drive Safe Sacramento project.
