The City of Asheville Historic Resources Commission met on October 14, 2026. Its main procurement- and capital-project-related discussion concerned planned infrastructure repairs in Biltmore Village, including sidewalks and ADA ramps, granite curbs, drainage features, street trees, crosswalks, and pedestrian-safety improvements on Biltmore Plaza, Kitchen Place, Boston Way, and Swan Street. Staff said the city’s initial project scope was just under $2.5 million and had received funding; a later application for roughly $2.3 million through Explore Asheville’s TDA LIFT grant program was only partially funded. The commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for the project, with final site plans to be submitted to staff for review. This was a historic-design approval, not a contract award or vote authorizing a new expenditure; no vendor selection or purchasing contract was identified.

The commission also approved certificates of appropriateness for rehabilitation work at One Swan Street and Five Boston Way, and for site work and outdoor dining furnishings at a Biltmore Village property; the application for a mural/sign at 32 Hendersonville Road was continued to a later meeting for further review. Members discussed proposed federal changes to historic-preservation review laws and regulations, but took no action on them. No other procurement awards or purchasing decisions were identified.
