The Springfield Community Preservation Act (CPA) Committee held its annual public hearing and regular meeting on September 1, 2026. Public comments focused on potential CPA priorities for the 2027 plan: targeted housing improvements, an active park in downtown, and ADA-compliant walkways at a park. The city’s housing strategy representative described a proposed block-by-block housing investment approach. Written comments were accepted through September 30. The committee also discussed a softball-field project that remains on hold while the city researches land ownership, and noted an RFP for other properties received no responses and is expected to be reissued within about 30 days.

The committee approved contract extensions for the 178–184 Maple Street project through December 2027, Angelina Park through June 30, 2027, and Godfrey Triangle through June 30, 2027. It also voted to renew administrator Karen Lee’s contract for another year; the transcript gives no contract amounts. Separately, the committee voted to support deleting a proposed requirement concerning small local historic districts, citing concerns that it could make preservation of CPA-funded properties more difficult. This was a committee position on a proposal, not an enacted policy change.
