🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

At its October 8, 2026 meeting, the East Ridge City Council approved a 4% increase in the cost of police and fire services provided to the City of Ridgeide for fiscal years 2027–2028. It also approved accepting a Tennessee American Water firefighter support grant for replacement batteries and a $5,000 Tennessee Highway Safety Office grant for police overtime enforcement. The council approved $500 donations to Spring Creek Elementary School and East Ridge High School. The city manager reported that the previously approved Manolane culvert replacement project is scheduled to begin October 19. Budgeted website and agenda-management software procurement is progressing, with presentations from three firms and recommendations expected before year-end.

The council tabled the Springvale Park development bid and directed staff to conduct a quick rebid. The lowest bid was $687,000, but the bidder and the next three bidders could not meet a bid requirement to perform at least 50% of the work with their own forces; Integrated Concrete was identified as the lowest responsive bidder at $773,000. Staff recommended rebidding rather than awarding at the higher price. Staff also presented vehicle purchase requests: a 2027 Chevy Traverse for the Police Department from Wilson County Motors under a state contract, a used fire department rehab/rescue truck for $10,000 (using $6,740 in surplus-vehicle proceeds and $3,260 from fund balance), and a used animal-control van for $31,000. The transcript does not clearly capture council action on those vehicle requests. Staff plans to bring a proposed residential traffic-calming policy to a future meeting.
