At its October 9, 2026 meeting, the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education reviewed preliminary, unaudited FY26 financial results. The district reported that the food-services fund needed a $2 million general-fund transfer rather than the budgeted $4 million, while the employee-benefit fund had an approximately $8 million gap between non-transfer revenue ($28.5 million) and expenses ($36 million). District staff and a newly selected benefits advisor will provide the board a more detailed update. The board also discussed a capital-fund scenario involving $25 million from reserves, assuming a $15 million transfer instead of the usual $30 million. The board approved submission of the 2026 district unified improvement plan and individual school improvement/turnaround plans to the Colorado Department of Education.
The board held a first reading of a proposed change to its budgeting policy that would cap administrative expenses at a percentage of general-fund expenditures; no action was taken, and further discussion and anticipated action were scheduled for October 15. The consent-agenda preview for that meeting included contract change orders requiring board approval: DW Paving, where environmental conditions increased paving and related costs, and a trash-services contract that would bundle costs differently without increasing the overall cost. The district also previewed a forthcoming Mesa K-8 action item. The District Accountability Committee discussed, among other work, developing a proposed mill-levy-override oversight structure, but no related spending decision was made.
