The Lorain County Commissioners’ Board meeting on October 9, 2026, included several budget and infrastructure items. Commissioners approved a $35,780.60 change order to 5K Commercial Roofing LLC for unforeseen repairs during the airport hangar roof replacement, funded from the airport capital improvements account. They also approved storm-water drainage-district actions for the Latiman Ditch project in Henrietta Township; staff described a $1.2 million appropriation, including $900,000 to repay a loan, and said a separate resolution awarding a contract to a firm is expected at a future meeting. The project is part of more than $6 million in ARPA-funded ditch improvements. Commissioners discussed transferring $500,000 for jail operations amid sales-tax revenue projections approaching $15 million, and approved the bills and other routine financial items. The board also heard that DARE instructional materials are supported by state grants, while deputy costs are covered by the Sheriff’s Office budget.
The Sheriff presented a proposed resolution to increase charges to municipalities for housing inmates, estimating it could generate an additional $400,000–$500,000 annually. Commissioners voted unanimously against the resolution as presented, with plans to revisit it at the October 20 meeting after further legal review and consultation with municipalities; current inmates would not be affected under the proposal. Commissioners also said their budget practice is to allocate funds by department and allow elected officials to manage spending within those allocations. A proposed annexation was tabled pending more information.
