The City of Sammamish Parks & Recreation Commission met on October 7, 2026. The commission received an update on the park capital improvement plan (CIP), including revisions to the Big Rock Park South and Beaver Lake Park proposals. For Big Rock Park South, a market analysis by Eco Northwest, working with Ops Architecture, recommended prioritizing the barn for flexible community use, bundling a pavilion with other spaces, and deferring work on the residence and pool house pending decisions about Building 120. Building renovation estimates ranged from just over $200,000 to $650,000, excluding design, taxes, site work, and stormwater improvements. Commissioners discussed parking capacity and preserving future options; no decision or vote on the proposal was recorded. The CIP is scheduled for council discussion at the end of October, with the Beaver Lake athletic-field option included in the city manager’s proposed budget. Staff said it was selected as the preferred option and would provide more than 1,000 additional annual use hours, with estimated annual maintenance costs about $500,000 higher than current costs, including turf replacement.

Staff also reported that the council had authorized approximately $900,000 on April 7, 2026, for the Mamesh Park field project’s base bid and Add Alternate 1, covering synthetic turf, irrigation and ADA improvements, a gravel warning-track renovation, and batting-cage upgrades; construction was underway. The commission took no new procurement-related vote, and no vendor award was made at this meeting. Other spending-related updates included planned rear-house renovations, with on-call electrical work and completion targeted before year-end, and a King County grant that covered asbestos remediation at the salmon hatchery. The meeting also included a presentation by Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery on education, habitat stewardship, and outreach; no city procurement action was identified in that presentation.
