At the October 8, 2026, regular meeting of the Valdosta City Council, council approved two procurement-related items. It authorized a $300,000 purchase of a new IBIS BrassTRAX ballistic identification system for the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Lab, including delivery, setup, training, and a seven-year warranty. The city had budgeted $30,782.40 in FY2027 based on a lease-to-own plan and had applied for a DOJ grant that could cover the remaining $269,217.60; the grant had not yet been awarded. The chief also said the system would reduce annual Match Point costs from $38,000 to $12,000. Council separately approved CDM Smith’s professional engineering services proposal, not to exceed $568,885, to coordinate design and bidding for improvements at Water Treatment Plant No. 1, including bypass piping and electrical-system upgrades. No construction contract was awarded for the water-treatment work.

Council also approved several zoning and conditional-use requests, including event-center uses, light manufacturing, and commercial rezoning. Residents raised concerns about street lighting, public transportation, and pedestrian and bicycle safety. No additional procurement decisions were identified in those discussions.
