The Union County Schools Board meeting on June 28, 2026 included approval of an administration-recommended contract award for a transportation fuel management and tracking system to Central Industries Equipment of South Carolina for $43,760. The board approved the award by vote. In a separate informational update, the superintendent discussed a proposed capital sales tax referendum for the November ballot, projected to generate about $60 million over approximately 15 years. Plans under consideration include a new school combining Foster Park and Monarch and a technical center in partnership with Spartanburg Community College. If that partnership does not proceed, the district’s contingency plan would redirect funds to school projects, including more than $4.5 million for high-school mechanical systems and other needs, with remaining funds allocated to Jonesville, Sims, and Buffalo. The referendum and project plans were discussed but not put to a board vote at this meeting.

The board also approved field-trip requests and revised the field-trip policy to remove a blanket prohibition on recreational water activities; water-related field trips remain subject to board review and approval. Other actions included approving policies on nonresident student admission, employee holidays and leave practices, and the district organizational chart. The board discussed adopting a consent-agenda format and heard conference updates on AI use in schools, but no related procurement action was identified.
